Vivo Is Bringing The X100 Pro And Its Massive Camera To Europe

Key findings

  • Vivo is expanding the presence of the X100 and X100 Pro outside of China, with the X100 targeting South Asian markets and the X100 Pro targeting Europe.
  • The most notable feature of these devices is the large one-inch camera sensor that offers better performance in low-light scenes.
  • They also have impressive specs, including a Mediatek Dimensity 9300 chip that rivals the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Vivo X100 and X100 Pro are leaving China and heading to other regions. Both devices were originally launched on November 13, but only in Vivo's home country. According to The Verge, the regular X100 is now set to hit select Asian markets, including India and Indonesia. Meanwhile, the X100 Pro is already on its way to Europe.

The move means the X100 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the Vivo X90, which had a similar build when it was launched earlier this year. At least for now, Vivo has no plans to release any phones in the US, although we expect that to change over time.

A larger than life camera

The standout feature of the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro is the one-inch sensor. That's a lot in smartphone terms, and only a handful of devices had it, including some Xiaomi phones and the Sony Xperia Pro I. In other words, you don't often see such large cameras on smartphones.

Having such a large sensor has its advantages. In our review of the Vivo X90, which has an excellent camera for a smartphone, we found that the photos are quite good. We expect similar, if not better, performance from the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro. A larger sensor means more versatility in low-light scenes and true bokeh (the depth of field created by cameras when using a wide aperture), two things compared to smaller smartphones. Camera sensors have a hard time with this.

Aside from slightly different camera systems, the X100 and X100 Pro are virtually identical devices. A short list of technical features:

  • Chipset : Mediatek Dimensity 9300.
  • RAM - 12 GB / 16 GB
  • Memory : 256 GB / 512 GB / 1 TB
  • Battery : 5000 mAh (X100) / 5400 mAh (X100 Pro)

An interesting option is to use the Dimensity 9300 chip. Mediatek is better known for its budget chips, but the Dimensity 9300 is surprisingly capable. In synthetic tests, it's faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that powers several Android flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, and it's expected to compete with next year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, meaning it'll perform well over next year's flagship.
