Mathame Stuns With Complex And MasterfullyProduced LP ‘Memo
Mathematics originates from the foothills of Mount Etna in Sicily. The duo of brothers Amedeo and Matteo Giovanelli offered dramatic visions of electronic music, electro indie, new dance and melodic techno. Heavily influenced by science fiction, classic film soundtracks, new technology and animation, Mathame's sound reflects his work as classical violinist Amedeo Giovanelli and award-winning conductor Matteo Giovanelli. Mathame's signature sound is at its best today, June 30, as both audiophiles are wowed by their debut album , Memo .
The body of work, which includes collaborations with Tiësto and CamelPhat, was largely written during a world tour. However, it begins in Mykonos after the brothers flee their hometown of Italy affected by Covid-19. The LP plays with themes of hope and despair. Techno pulses, soul melodies, dark yet romantic sounds, cinematic melodies and the dichotomy between dark and light can be found in this 14-track album. These sounds are very similar in their dynamics. Amedeo Giovanelli is more reserved and enthusiastic, while Matteo Giovanelli shows an uplifting yang. The juxtaposition of their voices, says Matteo Giovanelli, is the "romantic" of their musical style. Because the brothers are 12 years apart, their approaches are different, which he says parallels the way they both make music.
Matteo Giovanelli said Memo's inspiration was the impressions left by his world tours and travels. Due to the tour schedule, he said, they mostly stayed on the plane, so the LP reflects his memories of the photo and singing sessions of that time. Thus, the album depicts memories, excitement and sorrows, as well as questions about life, technology and time.
