Headphones these days come in all shapes and sizes and most of them are indistinguishable from one another. You have to make very powerful speeches to get attention. We've seen great headphones like the No Ear 2 use their unique design to their advantage. Huawei also sees design as its main asset, and the new FreeBuds 5 headphones are proof that the company is very adventurous. If you like what you see and want to know what it's all about, the FreeBuds 5 are available now in Europe and the UK.

Design

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5 headphones take the traditional headphone design and really complement it. The company calls it the "teardrop design," apparently inspired by Prince Rupert's teardrop shape. Huawei has extensively tested and analyzed thousands of earphones to arrive at this design, which is comfortable and does not burden the ears. The result is headphones that look familiar but unlike anything we've seen before.

The headphone charging case has an oval design that fits easily in your pocket. The lid tilts and the headphones are proudly displayed. It's really special.

Behavior

As other features, HUAWEI FreeBuds 5 has a 11mm dynamic driver with dual magnetic circuit. There are three built-in microphones that offer hybrid ANC capabilities. The headphones can also dynamically switch between ANC profiles. Best of all, they also offer noise cancellation for calls, so your voice will be clear even with loud background noise.

There's a three-way adaptive EQ that lets you tweak your sound on the fly, though as usual you'll need a companion app. These headphones support Hi-Res Audio with LDAC support as well as L2HC, HUAWEI's proprietary HD audio codec, so it's obviously a must for the latest HUAWEI smartphone. You also need a HUAWEI smartphone to connect two devices via Bluetooth 5.2.

The individual earphones have a 42 mAh battery while the case has a 505 mAh battery. HUAWEI claims you can get five hours without ANC and 3.5 hours with ANC from the headphones, and the charging case increases the total runtime to 30 hours without ANC and 20 hours with ANC. There's a quick charge feature, so you get two hours of playtime from a five-minute charge. The headphone case supports both wired and wireless charging. They provide surround sound on the HarmonyOS 3 smartphone

And best of all, these headphones have an IP54 waterproof rating even though the case does not have an IP rating.
