Huawei Is Back With A New Flip Phone That's Cheaper Than Samsung's
Huawei is back with its new foldable phone, which aims to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Flip series.
The Chinese mobile phone company on Wednesday unveiled its new foldable phone, dubbed the Huawei Pocket S, in a variety of colors. The new foldable phone is a mini version of last year's P50 Pocket . It offers both the chipset and the camera for a starting price of around $825 when converted to Yuan (see price conversion below for full details). In comparison, Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4 starts at $1,000 and the price remains the same in mainland China.
The Huawei Pocket Sk has a clamshell design that folds into a small square. It looks similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4, but has two large bezels on the outside, one with the triple camera module and the other with an external display that shows the time and incoming notifications. This second screen can also be used as a viewfinder when taking a selfie, meaning you don't need to unlock the device to take a live photo.
The Huawei Pocket S has a 6.9-inch internal foldable OLED display and a 1.04-inch secondary display on the rear panel. The camera setup is a 40MP primary sensor along with a 13MP wide-angle lens. There's also a 10.7MP camera positioned front and center. It is powered by the Snapdragon 778G which means the device is limited to LTE connectivity.
The Huawei Pocket S will go on sale in mainland China on November 10. It starts at 5,988 yuan for the 128GB version (about $825 / £735 / AU$1,300) and 6,488 yuan (or $895, £780 or AU$1,380) for the 256GB version.
