  • A new report has revealed some great insights into Samsung's Galaxy Ring.
  • Samsung is believed to have started "deep development" of the product.
  • However, nothing has been reported about the episode's mass production period.

Recently surfaced patent applications indicate that Samsung is working on a smart ring. Not much is known about this alleged Ring Galaxy, but another record revealed some pretty cool details.

Korean site The Elec reports that Samsung has begun "deep development" for the Galaxy Ring. The publication adds that the Japanese company Meiko is responsible for developing the printed circuit board (PCB) used in the smart ring.

According to the news site, the Galaxy Ring's mass production schedule is still unclear. So it's anyone's guess when we'll see smart rings debut.

However, Samsung is also said to have filed a patent for a smart ring that works with the XR headphones/glasses. The patent indicates that the XR devices will be able to use a smart ring to obtain information about the position of your fingers and hands. This could unlock the ability to control the XR devices with your fingers, reducing the need for these glasses and headsets to have cameras and other hand-tracking sensors.

For now, it's just a patent with no guarantee that it will ever see the light of day. But earlier this year, Samsung confirmed that it's working on a Headset XR with Qualcomm and Google, so it's theoretically possible to see smart rings built into this headset. But a report earlier this month indicated that the device was six months late.
