Vivo X Fold 2, X Flip Launched: A Lineup To Take On Samsung's Best

  • Vivo has launched its X Fold 2 and X Flip foldable phones in China.
  • Both phones offer Snapdragon silicon and ZEISS cameras.
  • Don't hold your breath for a worldwide release soon.

Vivo phones are no stranger to foldable phones, having launched the Vivo X Fold and X Fold Plus in 2022. These book-shaped foldable devices are targeting the Galaxy Z Fold series. The company has now launched vivo X Fold 2 with its first foldable phone.

These two foldable phones have a number of things in common, such as the ZEISS-branded camera and China's OriginOS 3 skin. But these devices are an entirely different proposition.

Vivo X Flip

Vivo X Flip is the company's first foldable phone and features a three-inch flip-up display. The screen is noticeably larger compared to the smaller 1.9-inch rotating screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Open the X Flip and you'll find a 6.74-inch 120Hz (FHD+, 1,200 nits brightness) OLED display with ultra-thin glass. This foldable phone also has a nifty Flex Mode feature that allows you to protect your phone for many challenges. Interestingly, Vivo claims the X Flip hinge can be folded and opened 500,000 times.

The foldable model doesn't have the most impressive camera system, and the X Flip is no different. A dual rear camera system is expected here consisting of a 50MP primary camera (IMX866V with OIS) and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. The latter also has autofocus, so you can take macro shots with the ultra-wide lens. A 32MP selfie camera is also present on the foldable screen, but you can also take selfies with the rear camera with the shutter screen.

Other specs include a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, a 4,400mAh battery with 44W wired charging (no wireless charging here), and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Vivo X Fold 2:

Want a tablet-sized screen in your pocket? Then comes vivo X Fold 2, a book form factor with a foldable 8.03-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED display (1,916 x 2,160, 4:3.55 aspect ratio, 1,800 nits brightness). The company says that this display also has an ultra-thin glass for added protection.

Vivo's foldable device retains the Flex Mode style features of its predecessor, so you can use your phone hands-free for video calls, video calls, or photography. The company adds that the lock is rated for 400,000 folds, but there's no word on the number of folds on the screen.

Meanwhile, the Vivo X Fold 2 offers a 6.53-inch 120Hz (OLED, 120Hz) smartphone display. This results in an aspect ratio of 21:9 which should match more traditional phone screens compared to Samsung's foldable devices.

Like previous Vivo foldable phones, the phone's display and foldable display are equipped with a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. This is a departure from competing models, which usually have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

This foldable phone is also equipped with a 4,800mAh battery, 120W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. As a result, Vivo believes you can get a 100% charge in 26 minutes.

In terms of photographic capabilities, the X Fold 2 has a 50MP main camera (IMX866V with OIS), a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP 2x telephoto camera. There is also a 16MP camera on the phone's display.
