This phone is part of the Redmi Note 12 series, which consists of:

While I'm generally a fan of pre-packaged products, I'm just as dissatisfied this time around. The supplied silicone case is too small for the phone. The buttons don't line up with their corresponding bumps and cutouts, and after the phone fitted better, I gave up.
The case doesn't offer good protection either. Sure, raise the screen to protect it, but the same doesn't apply to camera bumps, which are the first to make contact with a surface when the phone is placed on its back. And most people do that because it allows them to see the screen.
The phone was in my backpack, in my pocket, and when I was home it just lay on the plush carpet on my desk, but even then the cameras were kind of getting scratched in less than an hour a week.
I take care of my daily drivers the same way and none of them have ever scratched a camera. Don't believe in luck, folks. If you're considering buying a Note 12 Pro+, get another case or camera protector soon.

I know what you're thinking. This Dimension 1080 chip from Redmi is no different from the latest Snapdragon chips. And as for the power of raw materials, it's true. But despite the fact that you can't rack up the highest "Ultra" settings on some games, the Note 12 Pro doesn't behave like a bad device at all.
With 8GB of RAM and 256GB of fast UFS2.2 storage, the phone is fast, responsive and fun. Even if MiUI hinders this enjoyment as much as it seeks to increase it.
But beyond the most important factors, the Redmi 12 Pro+ is constructed and optimized in such a way that it really conveys the allure of a flagship. The Note 12 Pro+ looks really good. It's available in plain black and white, but we also have a blue version. The hues shine in a way that's always a feast for the eyes, while the matte finish on the phone's glass back is sure to turn heads. Too bad the frame is made of plastic.
However, the shape is quite large. It might be a problem for people with small hands, but it's fine for someone with big hands like me. It's also nice, cool to the touch, heavy to the touch but comfortable.
Its screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and the degree of protection is IP53. That means splashes and rain are fine, but getting wet or sandblasted is taboo and shameful for clumsy homeowners like me.

On such a smartphone with a 6.67-inch OLED panel, the frequency of 120 Hz beats like a vice full of happiness.
Despite the FHD+ resolution, I didn't notice any problems. Even looking at the pixels while gaming with the camera, it actually looked like it was a 4K display.

The automatic brightness control managed to miss more than it hit, but even then I never felt like the screen couldn't be as bright, dark or saturated as it needed to be.

The Note 12 Pro+ features a 200MP main sensor accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera. But what these cameras can do is make or break a setup. In this case, it's such an odd mix that it evens out on its own.
For some reason, the camera app on this phone, and I suspect in general, really wants to be the Pixel's camera app. It has an AI mode that tries to fix problems in real-time, while the Gallery app has a number of features that appear to be 'pixel-inspired', such as object removal and sky enhancement .
At the same time, it also has its advantages, such as the Ultra HD mode made possible by a 200 MP sensor. However, if you try to use it, you'll find that the phone can't understand what you want to do as its attention shifts from one topic to another.
The AI-powered features were also the best. The automatic color correction that the camera app tries to apply in real time has always bothered me more than it helped. And to be fair, if you've tried cleaning up on a Pixel phone, you can immediately tell that the Redmi version isn't quite as good.Then you also have Portrait mode, but the uneven cropping around objects makes the bokeh look like a shoddy Photoshop work by a young designer. So I tried it twice and then permanently banned it from my quickslot panel.
Maybe I did something wrong, but when those 200-megapixel shots went from phone to computer, the promise of Ultra HD performance was lost. I also noticed that the file size got much smaller, so I just gave up using the phone the way I wanted to.

As long as you disable AI and enable HDR, you can still reliably use the Redmi Note Pro+ as a point-and-shoot device. Even in low light, the results are admirable. The zoom didn't work and the resulting images were blurry and uneven even at 200MP.
But the camera app's hamburger menu hides additional features that I really liked. One of them is an embedded movie which I liked. I use this type of scaffolding quite often and it relieves me a lot not having to manually attach it every time.
Then there's the macro mode, which is very nice. It adds realistic bokeh, produces beautiful tones and the level of detail you get is just amazing. I liked it!
Then there's the icing on the cake: Pro mode, which offers an incredible amount of manual control options.
Here is a little background. I don't typically use Pro mode on most flagships as they come from prolific manufacturers. So I know I can trust the camera to get the job done, and as many of you know, it often works flawlessly.
But I can tell you that the results I got in the Pro mode of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ were incredibly impressive. They felt whimsical, realistic, and pure fun. I actually had as much fun as using an SLR without changing lenses.

As someone who has trusted Sony's latest Xperia I series, I can tell you the following. Sony can learn a lot from Redmi.
My only issue with the camera app is how it handles the UI. Some settings are hidden in the hamburger menu and not visible in the shortcut bar, including macro mode and movie cropping, while others are hidden on the right. This made navigation confusing as I wish I could customize everything as I see fit.

On the other hand, recording a video with the Note 12 Pro+ is very simple: you select the desired resolution, which can go up to 4K, click on "Record" and off you go. And the sleek 21:9 crop is also available here, which is so nice.
The stabilization works like a charm and as long as you don't make any sudden movements your shots will be practically accompanied by very cinematic camera shake. The sound quality is good, but the phone's microphone makes a lot of noise no matter what's going on around you.
The only real problem is that the autofocus isn't always smart enough to recognize the subject you're tracking, so you have to keep track. This can usually be solved by tapping the screen, but your phone also uses this command to automatically turn on the light. So be careful.

I tried to blow this phone up, or at least warm it up, but even with work mode on and battery optimization off, I couldn't get it moving. The phone's bad habit of aggressively filling up the 8GB of RAM it never needed probably has something to do with it.
The Note 12 Pro+ handled everything I threw at it, but also didn't allow me to push my gaming settings to the absolute limit. And you know what? For the price I think it's a fair compromise.
However, it's not that great, especially if you're a power user like me and know what you can get out of this type of hardware. For some reason this phone is acting like a slower 6GB RAM phone for no good reason.
To solve this problem, I came up with an option that made me laugh: memory expansion. This has been part of MIUI for quite some time and basically allows the phone to create a paging file for itself.Think of it as a kind of virtual memory that takes up more disk space than RAM. While this doesn't affect performance, it does increase the number of programs that can still run in the background. And to my surprise, it worked, even though it really wasn't necessary.
Is there a compromise? In theory, this will use up your memory faster, but your mileage will certainly vary. At worst, your storage will run a little slower after years of use. Personally, I can live with that, so I fully utilized the memory expansion.
I've also found a productivity routine that can help me push things further. The phone warned that turning on the mode could cause heat, but nothing of the sort happened. Even heavier games like Call of Duty or Diablo. With this setting, Immortal performed significantly better and showed no signs of overheating.
So I've given up now. It didn't cause any additional battery consumption for me. The only downside was the constant notification that kept reminding me to turn off Productivity Mode for no good reason.

I've never had a love-hate relationship with Android ROMs like I have with MIUI. First, it's customizable, sleek, and introduced me to some features I literally can't live without. On the other hand, it's clunky, buggy, and behaves in a way that confused me so much that I had to contact the Android developers multiple times to find out what was going on. And we couldn't figure it out, which was fun and refreshing.
I'll list the simple things first.
- Yes, antivirus apps are pre-installed. They cannot be deleted and will send you messages that you cannot unsubscribe from.
- Unfortunately, you can find advertising in these apps as well as in the settings and menus of MIUI itself. Sometimes you see them, sometimes not.
- Countless themes are available for free, 90% of the themes I tried had nothing to do with the screenshots advertised and I couldn't figure out what I was missing.
- The phone has great tools like a compass, built-in antivirus, and a cleaner app that don't do much.
- Lots of features, some of which you'll never find because they're hidden under layers of menu options.
- MIUI's dropdown menu just adds more prompts for user input, which is the exact opposite of what a good UI should do. But looks great.
- For face recognition and fingerprint unlock, I still had to swipe the screen to get to the home screen, which was just weird. I was able to fix the face recognition issue, but fingerprint unlock didn't work.
- Sometimes the phone clears the cache so quickly that multitasking takes longer than usual.
- It comes with Android 12, but 13 is available as an update and three years of OS updates.
- This phone gets you four years of security updates, and that's pretty cool.
Now I'm going to address a feature I loved and a bug I hated. I fell in love with MIUI reading mode. It doesn't do much more than add a paper texture to the phone's screen and change the color profile a bit. But it had a big impact on me. Eye strain was reduced to a level I wasn't aware of.
Google, if you're reading this, steal this idea and bring it to Android. This is salvation.
On the other hand, the Redmi 12 Pro+ locked my location settings for no reason. First, I was prompted to set the accessibility options for my location as usual. I accept. And after that he immediately pushed me to do the same thing again... and I did.
And then the location was deleted from my phone. When I restarted the device, the problem went away for a while, but still came back. This totally terrified me because I couldn't figure out why this was happening for days.
It wasn't until I started looking into background processes that I got my breakthrough. The culprit was the game accelerator. For some reason it tried to optimize random programs in real time without being told anything. After turning off the problem disappeared.
I have other examples, but they all have one thing in common. They pop up out of the blue and the solution to the problem is always an unlikely niche. Still, I couldn't fault the phone because it was so much fun to use in so many other ways.
Battery of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+

The battery worked well when the following options were enabled:
- The refresh rate is 120 Hz

- Bluetooth is active 24/7
- WiFi/Cellular is available 24/7
- The performance mode got stuck forever after I found it
Sure, when I played a more demanding game on higher settings the battery drained quicker, but it was still as fast as any other phone in a similar scenario.
Finally it was time to charge the phone and I was surprised that the 120W charger didn't charge the phone as fast as expected. But that's only because super fast charging isn't enabled by default for some reason.
After a quick stop at the recruitment program, everything went according to plan.
However, if you have a bad app, you need to go to the "Battery" section in the settings. Your phone loves to "optimize" battery-saving apps, and the results have never been better. As soon as you turn it off, everything is back to normal.
