1/1 Artist Spotlight: Space Case

ONE37pm's 1/1 Artist Spotlight is a series about giving love to 1 NFT artist. Whether you are from the world of traditional art or new to the art of web3, we want to highlight you and let you know the next ones.

1/1 NFT is a unique digital collection where only the coin itself exists. We can't wait to introduce you to the amazing and talented people in the NFT space and why they love what they do.

Space Case is a digital native neurodivergent artist known for his abstract style and sensitively expressed art. He is also influenced by abstract expressionism, graffiti, graphic design, glitch, cinema, punk rock, 90s electronic music and his album covers. He also uses collage, photography and figurative elements in many of his works.

How has your career as an artist changed since joining NFT? How did you start?

How it didn't change is probably a better question for me LOL. I have been a full time artist for over 15 years and have been doing NFTs for just over 2 years. In many ways, I don't think that has changed me, because I always create works from the same source of inspiration and with the same way of thinking, aiming to convey thoughts, emotions and stories. complex through different mediums. Communication and self-expression have always been more important to me than commodification, and even in a space where money seems to dominate much of the conversation, it's still far less important to me than the work that will survive and perhaps the culture that will speak. . /encapsulate.

I started mining at the end of 2020 after finally allowing my interest to overcome my doubts and impostor syndrome. My good friend Sarah Zucker is a huge inspiration to me, encouraging me to take the plunge and helping me through many of my early moments of dilemma and confusion.

Do you prefer physical or digital?

My work is a hybrid of analog and digital processes, but the end result is always an original digital piece. I use parts of physical drawings, paintings, scanned and photographed photographs, as well as create physical collage components and feedback mechanisms by printing parts of the artwork; paint, destroy, etc. mixed media style, then back to digitizing, compositing, etc. Finally finally merged into a digital painting. There are no 1 on 1 physical "originals" so to speak, but everyone has physical cues that helped create the final work. That said, I've been thinking about creating and drawing physical works and that might be something I experiment with more this year.

How would you describe your artistic style?

Layers are important to my work. Literal layers of matter and layers of meaning. I love making art that can light up like an onion. I also like to make people cry.

Who or what are your biggest inspirations?

Barry McGee. Janine Antoni Mike Kelly Radio Chief John Mitchell Massive double attack for Jack Whitten. Fred Thomaselli. Portishead. Agnese Martino Clyfford again. Trent Reznor. Kiki Smith Basquiat. Rothko. lynch.

What is your favorite track?

I can't name any favorites as it changes all the time. I like all my jobs the same. I hate them too. :)

What do you hope to accomplish in the coming year?

My goal is the same every year. Doing work that gets closer and closer to what I see in my head and what I feel in my heart. To stay free from work 9-5. (the art is a 24/7 job LOL)

When do you feel most inspired to create?

When my life is more harmonious, I feel more connected to my muse and my work. When I'm in conflict with my wife, family, friends, or random people on the internet, I feel uninspired and withdrawn. I'm working to change that because it's actually a reflection of my struggle with codependency, but it's true. I'm not the cliché-tortured artist who does my best when my life sucks. If my life is more than likely to collapse, so is my art.

Who are the 3 artists you have your eyes on right now?

Oh my god so much but here 3 @elquirze @_noumenal @edgar_frias_

What advice would you give to a newbie space artist?

In general, I recommend seeing a therapist if you can afford it. When it comes to real art, move slowly and deliberately. Notice how you respect the people working in the space. Instead of asking people to follow or follow you, ask for advice. Instead of looking for sales, look for relationships.

Do you prefer to be related to your audience or do you prefer it?

I prefer to be invisible but omnipresent, it's the dream hahahaha. <3
