DJ, Producer And Former Mixmag Editor Janette Slack Has Died Aged 42

International DJ and producer Jeanette Slack died at the age of 42 on Sunday, November 13, her family said.

Best known in Hong Kong and London, Slack is the head of the Slack Trax account and previously worked as an editor for Mixmag Breaks for many years.

Born in Hong Kong, Slack appeared in her Torture Garden session in the early 2000s, but later returned to her hometown and spent her free time teaching kids to DJ.

While in London, she became the first female winner of the London Denon D'Jost and also appeared frequently on BBC radio and television.

According to Hong Kong's Clockenflap Festival, she was in high demand for her "luxurious and glamorous" marathon performances at private island parties and luxury cruises.

Confirming the news, her brother Trevor Slack said: "Oh Jeanette, I love you more than you can imagine. Even we had a relationship that no one could understand - exactly the same thing, but you will always be my sister, I have no words and the loss doesn't even come close to being expressed. You always told me how proud you are and how much you love me, and I always tell you the same.

"Yang-jaan, I love and miss you so much. As hard as it is for me or anyone else to admit, I know you are at peace."

Tributes have been paid to the memory of the late DJ. "Janet was a true pioneer among women in the electronic music scene - both in Hong Kong, Asia and London - and had an absolute passion for dance music and the scene in general." - Adam Wright, promoter and DJ. To Hong Kong Free Press.

He continued, "Although she was a very talented DJ and music producer, her friends will remember her most for her contagious positivity, unwavering friendship and cheerful, warm heart."

"As happy as she was in general, she seemed happiest when sharing her love of music with young student DJs and producers. She was inspired by how she was able to treat these young people as equals and truly appreciate their accomplishments. They all looked up to her - just like all of us in a way."
