Is Minecraft On Steam?
Minecraft on Steam? More than a decade after its original release, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Minecraft had been added to the Steam Store. But does it need to be done now? Steam can limit what creators can do with their games, and at the end of the day, Minecraft is about creativity, freedom, and community.
Here we answer the question whether Minecraft is on Steam and whether there is a way to unlock the existing Minecraft launcher through Valve's platform. Either way, you're steps away from the biggest sandbox of its generation.
Minecraft on Steam?
No, Minecraft is not available on Steam. Online, Microsoft games can only be purchased directly from minecraft.net or the Microsoft Store, and digital codes can only be purchased from the Microsoft Store.
Minecraft on PC now starts with its own custom launcher, regardless of how you purchased the game. Minecraft has two versions Bedrock and Java version and both are available for PC.
The Java version is the original version of Minecraft, while the Bedrock version is the console and Windows version. The Mac version of Java is read-only on Linux. Although both games are now almost completely equal, there are still some differences in the user interface, for example, and they don't come together perfectly in one game. On PC, both versions, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends, can be accessed from the same Minecraft Launcher.
How to Add Minecraft to Your Steam Account
Almost all games can be added to your Steam library using Valve's "Non-Steam Games" feature. Minecraft Launcher is one such game, but unfortunately it does not support interaction with Steam. You won't be able to see your game time or enable Steam overlays, and your friends won't be able to see the game on your profile. The only benefit of adding Minecraft to Steam is the ability to open the Minecraft Launcher from your Steam library.
If you still want to add Minecraft to your Steam library, follow these steps:
- First, get Minecraft Launcher on your computer.
- Open Minecraft Launcher, then open Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del).
- Click More Details and then select the Processes tab.
- Right-click on any icon above and check the "Command Prompt" column.
- Find Minecraft Launcher in the list, right-click the file location and open file location.
- With this opening, turn on the steam.
- Click the Add Game button in the lower left corner and click the Add Non-Steam Game button.
- Click the "Browse" button and navigate to the location in another window.
- Instead of selecting "Minecraft", select "gamelaunchhelp" and click "Open".
- In the Steam window, click the "Add Selected Program" button and Help will appear in your library to start the game. You can change the name if you want.
- Clicking "Play" in "Gamelaunchhelp" will now open Steam's Minecraft launcher in your library.

However, if you are still stuck on Minecraft, check the system requirements of Minecraft so that you can run it on your PC.
