Realme Pad 2: Ambitious Upgrade, Refined Software, Faster Performance

Realme Pad 2: Ambitious Upgrade, Refined Software, Faster Performance

I don't like video streaming on my phone. I only do this when it's absolutely necessary, like when I'm out of town and only have my phone with me to watch my favorite NBA team play. Television has always been my favorite platform for video.

My next favorite? via tablet.

That's why I take a tablet with me when I want to watch Netflix, HBO, or the NBA, if I go on vacation or have coverage out of town. It may not be as immersive as a 50-inch Smart TV, but at least the screen is bigger than a smartphone.

That's why I take this opportunity to present the Realme tablet offering, Realme Pad 2, the second generation of the Realme Pad launched three years ago, now with an ambitious update, improved software, better performance, faster and smoother screen.

In a nutshell, the Realme Pad 2 features an 11.5-inch LCD display, Helio G99 chipset, 120Hz refresh rate and 8,360mAh battery with 33W fast charging.

Options/Prices:

There are two variants, the Realme Pad 2 with 6GB + 128GB LTE, which has an MSRP of P13,999, and its faster sibling, the realme Pad 2 8GB + 256GB LTE (our review unit), which sells for P17,990: . Even the base version offers plenty of RAM, storage and LTE connectivity, ensuring a stable experience across the board.

Design/Weight/Screen

The double-sided cover looks great, with its metallic finish giving it a practical and premium feel. The disadvantage, however, is the weight of 518 grams despite a fairly balanced weight distribution. The solution is probably to get a good tablet stand to hold it.

The display is an 11.5-inch 2K (2000 x 1200) display that offers a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. It's still a 2K resolution IPS panel like the original Realme Pad, though it brings some significant improvements where it counts. 10-bit color depth can produce more than a billion colors and a sharp display that provides plenty of clarity and detail to enjoy viewing your content.

However, to get the best viewing angle, view the content from the perfect angle.

Audio-wise, you get a set of four speakers here with Dolby Atmos support, which can certainly get loud. But personally I'm not a fan of tablets as an audio source. Just get a dedicated Bluetooth speaker.

performance

The new tablet is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset, which is certainly no slouch.

Therefore, daily use in relatively light applications is quite easy. With the occasional use of on-the-go millennials who are always outdoors and love to travel; Entertainers who can't get enough social media content, videos and/or books; Even kids or teenagers who need a solid device for online classes, videos and light gaming can multitask across apps without worrying about the Realme Pad 2.

Whether you're checking email, browsing social media, working on Google Docs or listening to music on Spotify (Bluetooth headphones are recommended), you won't face any major work issues throughout the day. With up to 8GB of RAM, you can switch between apps seamlessly, though not as quickly as a flagship smartphone.

Software

Realme Pad 2 has also optimized its memory management algorithm with the latest Android 13 based on UI 4.0 specially designed for tablets.

This allows the UI to be more intuitive, with the same layout and features you'd find on a Realme smartphone for ease of use and navigation, meaning I could multitask between apps for casual use without difficulty.

Other features include split screen, floating windows, smart sidebar, reading mode, Google Kids Space, dual windows and a new dock design.

drums

Battery life is where the Realme Pad 2 really shines, as its 8,360mAh battery is a big improvement over the 7,100mAh capacity of the first realme Pad.

At times, moderate usage will get you 3 to 4 days on a single charge, though the device's standby time is excellent, ensuring you never have to worry about running out of battery.

Even with heavy usage (gaming and Netflix binging), realme Pad 2 will give you eight to nine hours.

Charging time is also excellent, with the included 33W charger taking around an hour and 50 minutes to fully charge the tablet.

judgment

Realme Pad 2 is a great budget tablet that does a lot of things well like its stunning design, beautiful display, reliable performance and solid battery life. It easily beats the competition for its price and that's reason enough to buy one.
