Tecno's Stylish New Phantom V Flip Massively Undercuts The Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Tecno Phantom V Flip is the company's first flip phone that has received worldwide acclaim.

  • It has a unique 1.32-inch circular display and a large 6.9-inch foldable 120Hz display.

  • The device is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8050 SoC.

  • The foldable phone will be launched in India for the first time at a starting price of Rs 49,999.

Tecno is the latest OEM to enter the foldable phone category with the launch of the new Phantom V Flip. The company made the announcement at the Flip in Style event in Singapore on Friday. Tecno says the first flip phone is premium fashion, powerful cameras and a unique display layout on the cover, all wrapped up.

The Phantom V Flip plays online with a round lid and a large camera body on the back of the device. The circular display, which the company calls "Planet", is a 1.32-inch AMOLED display.

According to Tecno, the home screen is designed to allow users to simply swipe with their thumb to navigate through "smart widgets" or reply to messages. With a display density of 325 ppi, the home screen can display custom wallpapers, Tmoji, interactive 3D virtual pets and more, according to a joint press release from the company. In addition, the round screen cover can be used for selfies with the main cameras.

Don't expect full appliqué to work on a quilt of this size and shape.

Despite thereofness, needs to be fully folded down when fully folded. Although this claim is often heard, the company promises a wrinkle-free display. So, we have to see for ourselves if this is true or not.

The Phantom V Flip has a large 64MP primary sensor with a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens for the optics surrounding the circular screen. On the front of the device is a 32 MP selfie camera. Tecno uses a folding hinge on the device that allows it to stay intact at angles ranging from 30 to 150 degrees.

Like the Flex mode on the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the company calls this feature the FreeCam system. Users can use this feature to take photos with the camera or make quick video calls without using a tripod.

In terms of dimensions, the Phantom V Flip is 14.95mm folded and 6.95mm unfolded, making it one of the slimmest foldable phones around, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip's 5.15. Size 1mm and 6.9mm. That's a pretty impressive result for the Phantom V Flip, considering it's the company's first-generation flip phone.

Underneath, the Phantom V Flip is powered by MediaTek's high-end 8050 5G SoC, and the device packs 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There is an extended storage option that supports up to 8GB.

The phone packs a 4,000mAh battery that lasts a day and supports decently fast charging at 45W, giving you 50% battery life after 15 minutes of fast charging.

The standard version comes with HiOS based on Android 13, including ELLAGPT, Techno's home personal assistant.

Finally, the Phantom V Flip is available in two colors: Mystic Dawn and Iconic Black. Tecno offers matching cases in colors like pink, beach or cologne.

The Phantom V Flip will go on sale in India for the first time at a price of Rs 49,999 (~$598). It is sold exclusively on Amazon in the country and a shopping page is already live on the e-commerce website, which will start an early bird sale on October 1.

As with the Phantom V Fold, Tecno tends to undercut its competitors, so the price is no surprise. And at this price, more expensive phones should be considered. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 costs Rs 49,999 in the base variant.
