Huawei Announces Royalty Rates For Its Patent License Programs
Huawei is committed to licensing its Standard Core Patents (SEPs) on a Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) basis.
At the event, Huawei announced license fees for 4G and 5G phones, Wi-Fi 6 devices, and Internet of Things (IoT) products, in which Huawei is the largest SEP holder.
Bid limits for 4G and 5G phones are $1.5/unit and $2.5/unit, respectively. At the same time, Huawei's license fee for Wi-Fi 6 consumer devices is $0.50 per unit. For IoT, the cost of IoT-centric devices is capped at one percent of net retail value and $0.75, while the cost of IoT-enhanced devices ranges from $0.3 to $1 per unit.
Alan Fan, vice president and head of intellectual property rights at Huawei, has repeatedly said that a virtuous cycle in which innovators are protected, rewarded and rewarded is the key to sustainable innovation.
"We believe that reasonable royalties encourage creativity and innovation," he says.
So far, Huawei has received nearly 200 bilateral patent licenses, Feng said.
In addition, more than 350 companies have licensed Huawei's patents through the patent pool.
Based on these licences, Huawei's total royalty payments are nearly three times the total royalties, and royalty revenue in 2022 was $560 million.
Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union Tomas Lamanauskas said from afar that Huawei will play a key role in the cooperation process by supporting cost-effective and inclusive innovation.
"As we continue to address global challenges and work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), supporting policies and frameworks are critical to enhancing the innovation ecosystem," added Lamanauskas.
The company's total investment in research and development in the past ten years was 977.3 billion yuan. In 2022, R&D spending was 161.5 billion yuan, or 25.1% of sales. In the year In the EU industrial R&D investment ranking of 2022, Huawei will rank fourth in the world.
Huawei has licensed patents from leading technology companies such as Samsung and Oppo, as well as leading car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Subaru, Renault, Lamborghini and Bentley.

Huawei's official licensing website was also featured at the event. This site provides details on the company's two-way licensing program, from mobile to WiFi and cellular IoT.
