Tech Entrepreneur Arrested In Killing Of Cash App Founder Bob Lee
Nima Momen was arrested by San Francisco police on Thursday in connection with the stabbing of CashApp CTO co-founder Bob Lee.
Mameni and Lee knew each other, police said, but it was unclear how. Momeni runs an IT services firm in the Bay Area, according to his LinkedIn profile and government filings.
Lee was killed in the early morning hours of April 4 in downtown Rincon Hill. The killing was initially misinterpreted on social media as a sign of rising crime in San Francisco.
Elon Musk used the crime to criticize San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins on his Twitter platform.
"Violent crime in San Francisco is horrendous, and even when criminals are caught, they are often released immediately," he said. "Is the city having a hard time arresting repeat offenders @brookjenkinssfk?"
On Thursday, Jenkins called Musk's comments "reckless and irresponsible" and said they were "taking the wrong terms" and "spreading misinformation" about the attack.
The possible purpose of the legislation and further details have not been disclosed.
After helping found CashApp, Lee served as CEO of cryptocurrency company MobileCoin.
“From his significant contributions to Android at Google, serving as Square's first CTO, building the Cash app and working with us on MobileCoin, Bob has certainly made an impact that will last beyond the short term. On land, MobileCoin. CEO Josh Goldbird said in a statement after Lee's death last week.
Lee's family released a statement Thursday thanking police.
"Every day, people around the world interact with the technology that Bob helped create. Bob will live on with these interactions and dreams of making our lives better," the Lee family said in a statement Thursday.
"Our next steps will be to work with prosecutors to make sure that this person is not released to harm anyone or walk free," he said.
