Huawei Announces Unique New Smartwatch With A Surprise Lurking Inside
If you have a smartwatch, you know you can play music from it, for example, during your workouts. But you need headphones for that. Huawei's latest release, which has just been announced and will be available on March 1st, means you don't have to worry if you forget your headphones.
That's because the Huawei Watch Buds, as the new watch is called, have built-in headphones. Yes, a clock nut, right?
The watch has a more flexible display than most other smartwatches, which doesn't dip too far from the screen. It's held in place by magnets, and the first thing you notice when you open it up is how thin the screen is. The second surprise is the content. There are two ports that hold the battery and electronics, one on either side of the center bezel.
And there are two small headphones on the ports. In the shape of a bullet, but with rubber tips instead of gunpowder, the earpieces are very small. They come in three eartip sizes, so you can get good sound isolation, although the larger eartip may not fit particularly wide ear canals.
The idea behind this great innovation is that you'll never have your headphones and lose them in your pocket when you're done listening (as many of us did without worrying about AirPods (not returning) our headphones). container) as they can be recharged within a few hours of charging.
Huawei wanted to avoid using watches or headphones. The watch has a metal case and AMOLED display, and the magnetic clasp slides like a pocket watch, adding to its nostalgic appeal. The earbuds attach to the bottom of the screen with magnets, and the charger is designed so you can put the earbuds back into the watch at any angle and still charge. Oh, and while the regular earcups are marked left and right and shaped differently, the in-ears here are the same shape and reset each time. In other words, even if you put the right earbud into the left earbud, when you take it out again, they will automatically switch audio channels.
When the watch runs out of power, Huawei promises three days of smartwatch use between charges. Battery saving mode, where the headphones do not charge and turn off, lasts up to seven days.
The watch has heart rate monitoring, sleep and blood oxygen saturation monitoring and has 80 sports modes.
The headphones even feature active noise cancellation and Huawei's adaptive ear canal technology, where an in-ear microphone listens for changes in sound and adjusts the output accordingly. You can also use them to make phone calls.
I mean, I still think it's all a bit crazy, but it's definitely groundbreaking, and Huawei was desperate not to damage any of the devices.
The Huawei Watch Buds are available for pre-order now for $544 (£449.99). Available from March 1.
