Technoblade's Farewell Is The Top Trending YouTube Video Of 2022
On July 1, 2022, a video called "Very Tall Nerds" was uploaded to the channel of the popular YouTuber Minecraft Technoblade. It was a farewell video released by his family announcing his death, with his father reading a script written by Technoblade before paying his respects. It almost immediately became the most viewed video on the platform, and by the end of the year, YouTube announced that it was the most viewed video of 2022 with 87 million views.
YouTube talks about its most viewed videos to reflect the platform's culture and personality, because if you were happy with the "most viewed" metric, something like Baby Shark would probably be at the top every year. At launch, Technoblade had about 10.8 million subscribers, and now it has 15.6 million.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported my content over the years,” the Technoblade script said, also indicating that his name is Iskander. “If I had a hundred lives, I think I would become a Technoblade every time, because those years were the happiest years of my life.”
The content creator has been part of the Minecraft scene since 2013 and is especially known for his intelligence, PvP skills, and friendly competition with Minecraft Dream superstars. In 2021, Technoblade began to open up to his fans about his cancer diagnosis and spoke openly about the reality of the treatment while maintaining the same sense of humor: he once joked that an operation on a limb almost cost him an amputation.
Technoblade's father's statement in the video ends, "The last year has been a difficult one for our son as he battles stage 4 cancer. But he doesn't complain and uses his famous strategic mind to try and get through it. As best as possible. Courage. my son. This path was a great lesson for all of us who had the honor to ride with him. Thank you for sharing his journey of doing what he loves for his adoring fans.
The news was greeted with love and gratitude from the Minecraft community, and an in-game tribute to Mojang on the Minecraft loading screen: a tribute to the crowned Technoblade pig avatar.
Technoblade would probably be surprised that its ex-competitor Dream's "hi I'm Dream" greeting video managed to move to number three on the chart with 47 million views.
