Huawei And 70 Partners Propose FivePoint Framework To Empower Thailand As ASEAN's Digital Talent Powerhouse

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. today announced a partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES); Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI); higher education institutions; and industry partners to jointly discuss and formulate cross-sector ICT workforce development policies related to the country's national master plan at the "Thailand Talent Transformation Symposium". The event will launch the ICT Challenge 2022, which will bring together nearly 200 students to improve Thailand's digital workforce ecosystem.
The Minister of Digital Economy and Society Mr. Chaivut Thanakmanusorn shared the background of the Thailand Talent Transformation Conference: "Today, Thailand is facing a digital divide between urban and rural communities. That is why MDES, MHESI and Huawei Thailand are collaborating on the Thailand Digital Talent Development White Paper is one that addresses the challenges of human resource shortages and uneven access to digital technology caused by the rapid transition to a digital economy. The digital economy is expected to increase its contribution to Thailand's GDP to 30% by 2027, and this partnership will create more opportunities to develop ICT talent in the country, V. According to the Digital Master Plan (2022-2027), the goal is to improve the skills of all Thais so that they are prepared to live in the digital age. MDES thanks Huawei for hosting the ICT 2022 competition, digitally empowered profession which will help develop a generation of souls. This is essential to developing an inclusive, high-quality and sustainable digital ecosystem in Thailand.
Dr. Supachai Patumnakul, Permanent Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation explained: “Rapid digital transformation is leading to a shortage of skilled workers. More than 500K by 2030, mainly in medium level 3 skills and advanced level 4 (high level) skills like 5G, IoT and cloud technology We as MHESI need to focus on developing basic digital skills and knowledge. it will benefit the economic and social development of the country for generations to come. This includes: 1) policy development, standardization and monitoring; 2) skill development; 3) correspondence between career and work; 4) infrastructure development; and 5) funding and sponsorship.
The ICT Competition 2022 is an international ICT technology exhibition and knowledge sharing platform that aims to cultivate ICT talent from around the world through hands-on learning that supports technology-based innovation. The program will enhance the education and training of the next generation of digital talent and will run from 9 December 2022 to March 2023, with the winning team receiving a prize of THB 300,000.
Huawei, the world's leading information and communication technology provider, has established the Huawei ICT Academy (Thailand) and has partnered with 37 leading local higher education institutions to help train more than 26,000 civil servants over the years.
