Samsungs Newest Speaker Doesnt Want You To Know Its A Speaker

A few years ago, Samsung transformed the TV into a stylish home accessory and is now doing the same with its speakers.

The South Korean electronics company has revealed a new addition to its 2024 TV and audio lineup. A customizable speaker called "Music Frame" doesn't look like much at first glance. But beneath the discreet photo frame are six speakers and Samsung's audio processing technology.

Like the Samsung Frame TV, the upcoming device features a minimalist design that easily blends into its surroundings. Of course, you can display your favorite illustrations or photos on the central screen. However, what's even more exciting is that the speaker uses Samsung's Q-Symphony technology. This musical framework allows it to combine with TVs and soundbars from the company's 2024 catalog to produce surround sound or function as a standalone speaker.

In an interview with TechRadar, the electronics company revealed that the Music Frame can be mounted on a wall and used as a "TV speaker, rear speaker or subwoofer" with other Samsung devices. It hides two woofers, two tweeters and two midrange drivers behind an “art panel” made from a sheet of matte diasec acrylic. It also features Samsung's SpaceFit technology, which lets you adjust the volume of your music based on your surroundings.

The Music Frame follows the recent collaboration between Ikea and Sonos, which launched the Symphonic speaker in the 2021 Picture Frame. The Swedish retailer has teamed up with a premium speaker manufacturer to produce a black and white 22 x 16 inches. It's larger than the 13 x 13 Music Frame shown at CES this year, while the Samsung speaker has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, while the Symphonic has Wi-Fi only. Samsung also has a screen that lets you select an image on the screen, while Ikea only offers a few stationary models.

If you're looking for other chameleon speakers in your home that can go unnoticed by friends and family, the Bang & Olufsen BeSound Emerge is a stylish alternative. In collaboration with British industrial design studio Lair Benjamin Hubert, Danish audio company Beosound has released Emerge, which looks like a high-tech book. Featured at our 2023 Audio Awards, the Beosound brand is another incognito release to watch out for.

While there's no release date or price for the Samsung Music Frame yet, you can expect to see it at CES 2024 on January 12.
