Ever since its launch, the Redmi Note series has been synonymous with value for money. But that all changes with the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus. While the base model in the range is priced below INR 20,000, the top model starts at RIN 31,999, a first in the range. This company falls in the upper middle range due to its good design and good performance. But is it still worth it? I've been using it for a week and here's what you need to know about the new Redmi Note.
Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus: design and display
The design and texture of the Fusion Purple color changing Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus is by far my favorite Redmi Note. So, it has vegan leather in four colors. Since the phone is thin, it gives it an elegant look. I really like the three color options and would recommend this one over the Fusion Black or Fusion White options.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. HDR content can reach 1800 nits at maximum brightness for better clarity and an immersive experience. In daily use, the device can easily be seen outdoors, but it remains to be seen whether it can withstand the strong rays of the sun, which I have not experienced for a long time in the Delhi winter. But it's sharp and glossy for media consumption.
The screen is brighter and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victos. I dropped my phone once (accidentally) from a height of four meters and it was not damaged. Unlike the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus, this new mobile phone has an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Setup is quick and easy and works well.
Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra chipset. I haven't used it yet, but it goes smoothly every day. I didn't experience any stuttering when interacting with the UI or switching between apps, which I do all day. It has up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.
The device has a 5000mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging, which comes in handy when I run late for a meeting. For reference, it can be charged from 10% to 100% in 20 minutes.
The Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus runs MIUI 14 based on Android 13 and is confirmed to be updated to Xiaomi's new HyperOS "soon". Xiaomi has promised three software updates and four years of security updates on the new Note. However, Android 16 is expected to be supported as HyperOS update is considered as one of these updates.
Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus: Camera
The new Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 200MP primary camera with OIS, an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro sensor.
Photos taken during the day offer plenty of detail and good dynamic range. I like the 4x zoom sensor, but I prefer a standalone telephoto camera as it doesn't allow portrait mode zoom. However, the quality of the 2x and 4x zooms is good. However, this camera struggles in daylight and the other two cameras are average. Xiaomi claims that the phone will receive an update soon to improve the camera setup.
