Oppos Find X7 Ultra Has Four 50 MP Sensors, Two Periscope Lenses

Oppo's latest flagship phone is the Find X7 Ultra. The reason this phone is so popular is because it has two periscope camera lenses on the back. Like most Oppo phones, this phone will arrive in China first, and possibly Europe later, and won't make it to the United States.

The X7 Ultra is all about photography, with four 50MP sensors on the back. Camera #1 on the Periscope is a 3x50MP telephoto lens that uses a 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX890 sensor. Oppo says that "this sensor is approximately three times larger than equivalent cameras on competing flagships and is the largest telephoto sensor on any smartphone." Periscope no. 2 is a 6x telephoto lens with a 1/2.51-inch 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor, so it has a higher zoom but lower image quality. The main camera is a 1-inch high-resolution Sony LYT-900 sensor, and the wide-angle one is a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-600 sensor.

Putting all these big cameras on the back results in a huge camera bloat. Even though the phone is a full-sized 6.8-inch device, the camera takes up about a third of the back and feels like you're going to touch it when you're holding the phone normally.

The back of the phone has an interesting two-tone design with a glass cover and some sort of (presumably synthetic) leather covering the bottom half. The black version also has decorative stitching that looks classy.

The display is a 120Hz, 6.82-inch, 3168 x 1440 pixel OLED display. Google and Samsung are abandoning the old trend of making curved screens along long sides, but the Find X7 Ultra still has a twist. Other specs include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 5,000mAh battery. Oppo's patented SuperVOOC wired charging reaches 100W, while wireless charging (also patented) reaches 50W.

The phone starts at 5,999 yuan (about $845) in China and will ship on January 12. In March, Oppo promised a special version with satellite connectivity.
