DJ Juan Mendez, Techno Producer Known As Silent Servant, Has Died

Techno music producer and DJ Juan Méndez, known by his stage name “The Silent Servant,” has died.

The cause of death is not yet known. He was 40 years old. However, his exact age is unknown.

A representative of the British press confirmed Mendez's death, according to what was reported by The Guardian newspaper .

Mendes was born in Central America and raised in Los Angeles to Cuban and Mexican parents.

The “Kissing the Ground” musician started playing music when he was a teenager. He eventually joined the group Sandwell District, which represented emerging techno artists from 2002 to 2011. In the Los Angeles techno music scene, Mendes' influence on the genre has been a major force.

“I was never punk. Always? It was basically new wave,” he said in a 2019 interview. “But I believed in a kind of obsessive devotion to what you did, a kind of punk rock.”

In 2006 he began producing and releasing his own music under the name Silent Servant. His debut album Negative Fascination, released in 2012, contained the songs "Temptation & Desire", "Invocation of Lust" and "Strange Attractor".

During his career he has released numerous EPs, singles and collaborative projects. After disbanding Sandwell Circle, Mendes created his own label, Gealous God.

A few months ago, in November, he released his latest EP, In Memoriam , on Tresor Records. But three days before his death, he released his final album, Sampler 1 B1 (Regis Edit), a collaboration with British musician Regis.

Many musicians mourned Mendes' death on X, with music artist Turk Dietrich calling him "a great talent and a force in the world of electronic music."
