The Wikimedia Foundation, which runs the free-to-publish online encyclopedia, announced that the English-language Wikipedia received more than 84 billion hits this year. In the 2023 ranking, the second most read article on Wikipedia was "Annual Collection of Deaths", which maintained its high traffic as in 2022 and 2021, taking the fourth and first places, respectively. This year, there was a lot of interest in the nominations of individual celebrities, including Matthew Perry and Lisa Marie Presley.
The 2023 Cricket World Cup came in third, with cricket-related entries dominating Wikipedia's top 25 articles for the first time since tracking began in 2015.
