Gene On Earth Will Usher In 2024 On A Sleek Note
Few know how to combine simple house sounds with thick melodies like San Francisco's Berliner Gene On Earth (real name Gene Arthur), who returns to Miami on New Year's Eve with Floyd's bandmate Dyed Soundorom.

"For the first time in 2019, we held an informal meeting," Artur told New Times . “Our last set was in Albania and it turned out to be one of the most magical sets I've ever played. The organizers even moved the time back so we could continue the game.

Arthur started playing electronic music as a student in the early 2010s and was introduced to the music of artists such as Deadmau5. However, the development of his elegant style happened gradually. First, as part of his Italian minor, he took a trip to Bologna, Italy, where he immersed himself in dance music. Europe was not as excited about house music in big venues as it was in American nightclubs.

But wasn't the next trip to Berlin the most important thing. Arthur describes his current selection of haunting sounds as a natural progression after landing in the German capital.

As a DJ, Arthur began researching Beatport's top 100 bands to build a base, breaking into Berghain and Panorama Bar, whose bookings focused on the Detroit sound and deep house. Over time, he found friends who introduced him to the simple house and pioneers like Zeb and Ricardo Villalobos.

Arthur also started digging through boxes in Berlin. A desire to find rare gems in Europe and the west coast led him to decide to become a vinyl DJ. "I go digital to watch demos. That's pretty much the only time I do," he adds.

Gene On Earth's sound is stronger than the addictive elements of minimal house and techno music, but it lacks the dips usually found in the Beatport charts. Instead, it's a sweet sound that goes on and on with left-field vibes and ambient tones. A local comparison is a comparison of versions of sports records. A similarity can be seen with the Dutchman Chris Stussy.

Gene on Earth made a name for itself in 2017. He adopted an animated character (a man with a Hanna-Barbery moustache, buttoned-up shirt, and smoking a cigarette) on flyers and album covers. Arthur then founded his own label, Limousine Dream, which released two Arthur albums and a compilation series called The Sound of Limo .

"During the pandemic, I had to do more than just work on songs," Arthur admits. “So I gathered a group of friends and artists I admired. It worked well, so I thought it would be good to grow it from that seed, because I wanted it to grow in the global playing field, and I felt like I was the only one ." The way to do that is to market more music."
Limousine Dream releases are available on streaming platforms and vinyl. Their latest compilation album Purveyors of the Hypnotic Groove features a collaboration between Tini and Arthur called "Piranha Club".

"After I got back into touring after the lockout, I felt overwhelmed by the management of the label and I was getting close to a bit of burnout with my music and my serious relationship," says Arthur. "So I hired my first employee in 2022, and that made things a lot more possible, and as the brand grew and a certain level of organization, a lot more became possible, and I started getting more demos, and that's the result." For many other publications.

In addition to Dream Limousine Company, Arthur manages five other brands. There is a subtag that shows all other works that do not contain Gene On Earth. The launch is planned for next month. Aspiring producers can sign up for Nug-Net's signature course, where Arthur teaches production and collects student work to compile an album.

"There will be two Bandcamp releases and two vinyl releases," Arthur explains via Nug-Net . "I'm also going to start a spin-off label that's a little bit underground, and I think it's going to be vinyl only coming out next year." Fortunately, there's Nuts & Volts, a digital-only label created by Arthur that sees itself as precious releases of new talent deemed too risky to press on vinyl.

"There's a two-month lead time for vinyl releases, and it seems quite difficult to flood the market with promotional releases on one label," Arthur explains. "I like different sounds that might not fit a certain brand."

Seven years later, Jane's amulet on Earth has not aged at all, and neither has Arthur. Their ambition and their sound remains the same: to create a good atmosphere with something old, new and elegant.

"These six years have been the best of my life. I'm looking forward to the next six," he says. “It's about being on top and living the dream. Keep doing your research and keep paying attention to your brand.
