Plans for the public house were unveiled Thursday to donors who attended the association's first fundraising event at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. First Lady Jill Biden praised the project in front of an audience at a private event with actors Michael Douglas and Martin Sheen. Both played the roles of presidents on television and in films.

“I believe that our present and the future of teachers are inextricably linked to our past,” he continued. “As we learn from the past, we change not only through information, but also through our responsibility as citizens of this country, our responsibility to one another, to protect our democracy and our freedoms.”
“I think this is needed more than ever when our institutions are under attack and some of our leaders appear intent on burying our history,” Biden added.
