TIFF: Mongolian Youth Caught Between Techno And Tradition In ‘City Of Wind Trailer (Exclusive)
Young Mongolians are caught between centuries of tradition and the demands of the modern world in City of Wind , the debut film from award-winning short film director Tsagvadulam Purev-Ochir ( Snow in September , Mountain Cat ). .
The film, which premiered in Venice and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, tells the story of the relationship between Jay, a 17-year-old Mongolian shaman, and Marala, a young woman who takes him away from his world. , Alien World City in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

Tergel Bold-Erden, who plays Jay, won first prize for best actor for his performance in “Venice Horizons Sidebar.” In the film's exclusive first trailer (watch below), viewers follow Ze as he moves between the ancient spiritual traditions of his homeland and the hustle and bustle of the modern world. Ariyunbamba plays the role of Marala in Nomin-Erden. The main roles are played by Send-Ayush Namsuren, Gonzorig Setji and Bulgan Chulunbat. The idea for the film came to Purev-Ochir after taking part in a traditional shamanic ritual.
"After the ceremony, I was waiting outside the apartment and a young man younger than me came out - tattoos on both hands, a shiny earring - and he took out his phone and started watching a video," Purev said. - Oh, remember. “And he was a shaman! I immediately saw the first images of the film, the story of a shaman who takes off his mask to reveal this young man behind the spirits of the old people.”
After a triumphant debut in Venice, City of Wind comes to Toronto, where Pureve-Ochir's Snow won the top prize for Best Film at the TIFF Short Awards last September .
