- Roh, head of Samsung's mobile brand, confirmed that the company is working on a foldable tablet.
- The CEO also said that such a device should be thin and light, highly portable and powerful.
- The company is investing a lot of resources in foldable tablets and laptops, he said.
It looks like Samsung is actually working on a foldable tablet that will be different from the Galaxy Z Fold line of smartphones. In a July 28 interview with The Independent (h/t The Verge ), Samsung's mobile head TM Roh confirmed that the company is developing foldable tablets and laptops.
"People open books to read and write notebooks. When not in use or travelling, it can be folded up, making it more compact and portable, as well as protecting the important information inside. "It's just a natural part of human behavior," Ro said of Samsung's ability to create a foldable Android tablet. Later, the company confirmed that it was developing such a device.
"What was previously applied to smartphones will be extended to tablets and laptops. To that end, we are investing a lot of resources in Samsung,” Ro said in the release.
The CEO said Samsung is preparing "supporting technologies" for foldable tablets and laptops and will launch them when they are "ready to bring meaningful innovation to consumers."
“This (foldable tablet) still needs to be thin and light to be very portable. But it must be durable so that it can be used safely," he added.
Before the company's official confirmation, a source predicted that Samsung would launch a foldable tablet this year. Samsung is expected to release the tablet at the same time as the Galaxy Tab S9 series. However, we all know that is not the case. It seems the insider was only half right. Now we know Samsung's foldable tablet is in the works.
Our friends at LetsGoDigital have talked about Samsung's patent for a foldable tablet called the "Galaxy Z Fold Tab".
The publication created renderings based on a patent showing a foldable device with a display that folds and unfolds.
With that in mind, you should be aware that many of these patents will never become actual products. We'll have to wait for Samsung to release more information about the tablet to know when it actually goes into production.
