Detroit Today: Techno Legend Kevin Saunderson Reflects On Legacy, Movement Fest, More

This Memorial Day weekend offers music fans around the world the opportunity to celebrate another culturally significant voice born in Detroit. That's why this weekend Detroit is celebrating the 2023 edition of Movement, an annual music festival celebrating electronic music and its legacy as the birthplace of techno.

Inspired by futuristic ideals, Detroit music pioneers and creators used the technology at their disposal to invent a danceable, electro-infused sound that inspired a generation of new music.

Kevin Saunderson is credited with pioneering the Detroit techno sound along with Belleville Three members Juan Atkins and Derrick May. The cultural icon caught up with Detroit Today 's Stephen Henderson and Nick Austin to reflect on his career, his upcoming appearance on this weekend's Movement and more.

Jason is the Director of the Huvaere Movement Festival and Director of Paxahau. He says it's become an "annual gathering" honoring Detroit.
