UK Techno Pioneer Lee Purkis, Aka In Sync, Dies Aged 54
DJ Lee Purkis, better known as In Sync, has passed away at the age of 54.
Purkis is recognized as one of the UK's first DJs to support, promote and play house and techno music. Insync Vs Mysteron formed the 10th Planet label with Chris Hartley and David Manuel in 1992. What he stands for are these releases and solo releases on labels such as Plink Plonk, Ruins, Pickfrog and One Way Static. Very popular.
In the year In 1989, he founded Fatcat Records in his hometown of Crawley, East Sussex, known for their dance records, which Purkis discovered mainly during his travels to Detroit and Chicago.
In the year In 1992, Purkis released the song "Hurricane", which has been popular on dance floors for years. Then in the year In 2006, he founded another label, Fortune 8, and returned that year with new music and records recorded in the late 90s.
Purkis' close friend, Kirk DeGeorgia, told the Eternal Advocate that Purkis was "one of the best music directors to go to Detroit first to find early artists to record techno."
"In the year He came to me in 1991 and played the now classic Storm/Warm EP on a poorly recorded but wonderful CD. Recorded on two SH101s with a Roland TR909 and 808, this will be the first release on my ART label,” he said.
DJ Luke Slater tweeted: “Been a few years since I saw Lee. In Sync - Storm is a true work of art and one of the most beautiful and catchy techno records I've ever heard. It definitely reinforced the techno spirit and the journey for me. Eternal! RIP Lee and thanks for the music”7
German electronic duo Hardfour added: “I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Lee Purkis. I've never met him in person, but his music set a new high and will live on forever. May he give strength to his family, relatives and friends. rest in peace."
Dave Cole, co-founder of FatCat, said on Facebook: “FatCat would not be where it is today without Lee, who was instrumental in our move from Crawley to London and guiding our direction. He bought into the unique vision and voice we created.
I personally learned a lot from his company and found him an absolute inspiration.
