Samsungs First QDOLED Gaming Monitor Might Be Dead On Arrival

Samsung's first QD-OLED gaming monitor is now available. First announced in August 2022, the Odyssey OLED G8 is a 34-inch Ultra HD QD-OLED gaming monitor, but there's a catch: We've had this display for almost a year now.

Here is a brief overview of the specifications. The Odyssey OLED G8 is a 34-inch QD-OLED display with a 3440 x 1440 resolution, 21:9 aspect ratio and 175Hz refresh rate over up to 65W of power from USB, and DisplayHDR True Black 400 is VESA certified. of:

This might sound familiar if you're looking for the best gaming monitors. The Alienware 34 QD-OLED has the same specs and was released almost a year ago. The problem for Samsung is that the Alienware display costs $1,000, while Samsung charges $1,500 for the Odyssey OLED G8.

Samsung doesn't charge extra just for that. The Odyssey OLED G8 comes with a few extras, namely the inclusion of a Samsung Smart TV platform with Samsung GameHub, as well as a USB-C power source.

The Odyssey OLED G8 also features a Samsung Neo Quantum processor. It's the same processor that helps Samsung top our list of the best QLED TVs, offering extra contrast, color and sharp processing not found in the Alienware version.

It is unclear whether the Samsung monitor uses a different panel. The Alienware 34 QD-OLED uses a Samsung display. We've reached out to Samsung to find out if the Odyssey OLED G8 uses the updated version, and we'll update this article when we get back to you.

A Neo Quantum processor is sure to power the Odyssey OLED G8, just like it does in Samsung TVs. Despite its high price, the Odyssey OLED G8 looks like a great gaming monitor. Samsung boasts a 0.03ms response time thanks to its QD-OLED panel, as well as FreeSync Premium Pro certification.

In its announcement, Samsung also highlighted the upcoming Odyssey OLED G9. This 49-inch 32:9 display also uses a QD-OLED panel and has a fast refresh rate of 240Hz. Samsung says it expects "later this year."
