Maxi Jazz, British Singer And DJ, Has Died At 65

British singer, DJ, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Maxi Jazz died on Saturday, social media friends of the band said. He founded the electronic band Faithless in 1995 which was very successful in the UK and Europe, scoring three number one hits on the US dance music chart with 'Salva Mea', 'Insomnia' and 'God is to DJ'. .He is 65 years old.

"We are sad to report that Maxi passed away in his sleep last night. Sending love to everyone who has shared our musical journey with us. Watch each other hey,” members of Faithless Sister Bliss tweeted after the initial announcement.

“He is a man who changed our lives in many ways. He gave our music the right meaning and message," Faithless said in a separate statement. He was also an extraordinary person who had a time for everyone and a deep and accessible wisdom, "continued the group." He was a brilliant poet, DJ, Buddhist, great stage presence, car enthusiast and relentless talker, good man, moral compass, and genius."

Born in London, Maxwell Frazier emerged as Maxi Jazz in the 80s club scene playing pirate radio. His first band, Maxi Jazz and Soul Food Café System, mixed hip hop and funk and enjoyed some success in Europe. She then formed Faithless with keyboardist Sister Bliss, vocalist Jamie Catto and producer Rollo in 1995, immediately gaining attention for her trance beats and jazzy counter vocals. In the worldwide hit "Insomnia", her song "I Can't Sleep" collides with synth chords and sends an irresistible cry onto the dance floor. It also looks great on video.

But maybe it would be more beautiful to display it in person.

Faithless's later work in the 1990s was very successful, with several gold and platinum singles released across Europe, most notably the song "God is a DJ". Singer and music video director Catto left the group in 1999 to form 1 Giant Leap. In 2002, Jazz guested on 1 Giant Leap's "My Culture" which also featured Robbie Williams . The music video was nominated for a Grammy, the Recording Academy's only jazz award.
