James Wan Would Love To Remake Chopping Mall In His Style
Director James Wan is this generation's horror blockbuster. His enthusiasm for horror films and his desire to embrace them was high and he helped push the genre to its peak with films like Saw , Malicious and The Conjuring . Whether it's a torturous film or a disturbing subject, fans trust Wan to scare them every time. Viewers familiar with his work also understand his penchant for horror, such as the viral video of the titular puppet dance from his latest film M3GAN . In a recent interview with Slash Film, the filmmaker opened up about his love for the genre and revealed that he's interested in recreating cult classics like Chopping Mall , but with his own unique twist.
Chopping Mall is a 1986 techno horror thriller film directed by Jim Wynorski from a script by Steve Mitchell . It follows eight teenagers trapped in a shopping mall with an interesting security system. It has three high-tech robots programmed to immobilize and capture thieves with a taser and stun gun. However, as expected, the robots go rogue and start killing all the humans they find. The plot takes a comical turn when the robot electrocutes a janitor and starts chasing a group of mall workers partying in a furniture store.
Kelly Maroney , Tony O'Dell , John Terleski , Russell Todd , Paul Bartel , Mary Woronov and Barbara Crampton starred in the film, and it was not well received by audiences when it opened in theaters. However, it has found a cult following over the years since its home release. Speaking about his love for funny horror movies, Wan said, "I have a lot of horror movies that I find funny and that I like, and I'm sure the horror community shares that with me." He added:
"I like movies like Chopping Mall. I like Night of the Creeps. My movies."
