Techno Star Nicole Moudaber Talks Being Jailed And Growing Up In A Patriarchal Society

Nicole Modabre is known for her rhythmic, hypnotic and intelligent voice that she brings to dance floors around the world. Born in Ibadan, Nigeria to Lebanese parents, Mudaber spent his childhood in Lagos and moved to Beirut as a teenager. The producer says he had a hard time growing up in a patriarchal society, but he "exceeded all expectations in the Middle East." However, he threatened the organizer to fire him when he threw a party and sentenced him to prison.

He threw a Halloween party in the late 1990s after the Lebanon War. Many of the attendees were from the LGBTQI+ community, and controversy erupted five months after the party when a major magazine published a cover story claiming the organizer was spreading "homosexuality and perversion" in Beirut.

They called the police, he admitted that he had already organized the party. The officer said they would have to hold him until a judge signed an order for his release. A judge failed to sign the order in time, so she spent eight hours in jail until her lawyer sister was released.

"During these years, I kept the story a secret," says the client. "My parents never knew. No one knew about it."

"It was not easy for me at all," he added. "I feel ready and now I have the opportunity to talk about it."
