Techno Star Nicole Moudaber Talks Being Jailed And Growing Up In A Patriarchal Society
Nicole Modabre is known for her rhythmic, hypnotic and intelligent voice that she brings to dance floors around the world. Born in Ibadan, Nigeria to Lebanese parents, Mudaber spent his childhood in Lagos and moved to Beirut as a teenager. The producer says he had a hard time growing up in a patriarchal society, but he "exceeded all expectations in the Middle East." However, he threatened the organizer to fire him when he threw a party and sentenced him to prison.
He threw a Halloween party in the late 1990s after the Lebanon War. Many of the attendees were from the LGBTQI+ community, and controversy erupted five months after the party when a major magazine published a cover story claiming the organizer was spreading "homosexuality and perversion" in Beirut.
They called the police, he admitted that he had already organized the party. The officer said they would have to hold him until a judge signed an order for his release. A judge failed to sign the order in time, so she spent eight hours in jail until her lawyer sister was released.
"During these years, I kept the story a secret," says the client. "My parents never knew. No one knew about it."
"It was not easy for me at all," he added. "I feel ready and now I have the opportunity to talk about it."
The artist is now proving he has the power to debate, especially given the considerable platform his meteoric success has brought him. He has released singles, performed at prestigious festivals around the world and runs MOOD Records and the award-winning In The MOOD radio show.

"My life is very hectic," he says. “I'm in the studio on weekends [and] in clubs and festivals. It's all very loud and sometimes I just need to give my ears a rest. He often listens to podcasts on astrology and spirituality to relax,” he added.
The master also has a passion for racing. He started racing six years ago when a friend, a Formula 1 test driver and two-time European GT champion, suggested he try racing because he knew his love for cars and his need for speed. He said he immediately contacted and applied for a professional driver's license in 2016. Since then, he has been testing cars in the UK, Barbados and Lisbon, Portugal, with a top speed of 165 kilometers per hour. His other passion is boating and he enjoys Ibiza and the Caribbean on day trips. Mudabber grew up in the Mediterranean region and says he loves the sea.
As for the next step, the mastermind says he plans to write a book.
"I'm going to talk about my journey to who I am today," he says. "How I grew up in a patriarchal society, how everything was so difficult for me because I'm a woman."
