How To Change Your Minecraft Username
Changing your Minecraft username can be confusing. Here's how to do it, no matter which platform you're on.
As with many players in the past, sometimes difficult usernames have become too big and changing usernames is the perfect fresh start. In 2015, Mojang allowed users to change the username for all Java accounts. However, changing the username in Minecraft is a little more difficult than in other online games. It depends on the platform and version. This guide explains how to change your Minecraft username on all platforms. For a login, this is easy if the account is linked to Microsoft and/or Mojang. However, in March 2022, Microsoft issued a mandatory warning to all Minecraft players against switching from Mojang to a Microsoft account.
It's also important to note that the Xbox game tag is different from the Minecraft username, but they can be the same. In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, the player avatar has a GamerTag tag on it, as Minecraft Bedrock Editions is part of the Xbox multiplayer system. This happens whether you're playing Bedrock on Windows 10 or Xbox.
Username requirements
Like any site with additional login requirements, Mojang has creative limitations on what players can do with their usernames. Here is a list of what players can and cannot do when creating a new username:
- Only special character users can add an underscore ( _ ).
- The player cannot add spaces, such as B. single words (eg "Epic Dwarf").
- Username must be between 3 and 16 characters.
- Although players cannot, they can add any letter from A to Z and any number from 0 to 9.
Minecraft username can be changed once every 30 days. In addition, old usernames are kept for 37 days in case players regret their decision and wish to return. However, players cannot change their usernames during those 30 days, and after those 37 days, the previous usernames will disappear and can be used by someone else.
Change your username through Microsoft or Mojang

Change the username according to the game tag
For those using the Bedrock version of Minecraft, it is best to change the username along with the game tag. In this case, the game tag is the username that appears above the player's avatar while playing Minecraft. Here are the steps to change the game tag:
- Go to the official Xbox website
- Click on the shield it's in the upper right corner
- Click on the profile picture
- Click Xbox profile
- Click Privacy Settings (next page may have login verification process)
- On Xbox In the left column, click Settings , Change Player name
- Be creative and check availability
