Dream Collabs With Technoblades Father To Raise Cancer Awareness In YouTubers Legacy
The Minecraft Dream content creator went live with Father Technoblade in a video in which he shared personal stories about the late YouTuber to help raise cancer awareness.
On June 30, it was announced that Minecraft YouTuber Technoblade had passed away after losing his battle with cancer. The 23-year-old YouTube star opened up to fans about her diagnosis before quitting content creation in 2021 to undergo chemotherapy for her condition.
After his death, Technoblade viewers, as well as his family, friends, and the YouTube community came together to support and donate to the Sarcoma Foundation and other cancer research companies in his honor.
To raise awareness, Dream's first livestream since his face was revealed, uploaded on October 18, featured Technoblade's father as the video remembered the late YouTuber and encouraged viewers and community members to donate to the Sarcoma Foundation.
The Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps improve early detection of sarcomas and related tumors, as well as improve treatment options, outcomes, and overall quality of life for people diagnosed with them.
Earlier on air, Dream explained how he worked with the father of Technoblade to find ways to help raise awareness for the cause and encourage people to donate.
"Ever since Techno passed away, we've been talking and talking about how we can do our best and raise as much money as possible." Dream added later in the video that "Cancer doesn't get as much funding as you think."
Technoblade's father then spoke about his sad journey and spoke candidly about what the last week of Technoblade's life was like.
“Mourning should be the only thing that continues and I have been through it. I've been there all my life... The last week of his life was especially painful. I don't want the last week of his life to be final in my head." However, his father explained that he wanted the public to remember his son as "a whole person."
They then shared stories about Technoblade, with Dream revealing how she and Technoblade went from being "opponents" and "friends" to a deeper friendship and relationship. Explain how this change in their dynamic started when they "teamed up" for the Minecraft tournament.
The Techno dad told stories about when his son was younger, how he laughed with his son, how serious he was about video games when he first started playing them. For example, if the power goes out at some point and Techno loses progress in the game, it will correct Techno and say "that game was total crap" when your child calls the lost progress "work".
His father then revealed that while Techno had no specific plans before he died, he wanted to reveal his face "eventually".
"That's what he thought. He never found a trick or hook that worked." And as he died before Dream's face appeared, the content creator spoke emotionally about the pair's argument, where he "made her feel like she was a part of [his] whole."
At the end of the hour-long video, Dream and Father Techno discussed what Technoblade viewers, as well as the general public, can do to support and raise awareness of cancer research. "Most people know someone who has cancer," says Dream. "If you can't donate, try to raise awareness, spread the word."
Technoblade's father added, "I know Techno had a pretty big audience and it seems like it really meant a lot to people... I'm so proud of him, humbled and grateful." Finally, he thanked those who have already donated and supported the Sarcoma Foundation, explaining that those who work there "have never seen anything like it", speaking of how the Technoblade community has joined him.
