Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) Review: Outstanding Sound & Excellent Display

Huawei makes some of the best tablets on the market right now. It's a shame they don't come with Google services, but if you don't need Google apps, these tablets are well equipped. Huawei usually has the right design, works well and has a lot to offer. Actually, the same applies to Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022), as you can see in our review.

The new Huawei tablet has some improvements over last year's model, not to mention a new and improved chassis. I'll be talking about this for a while because this is the best tablet case I've ever used. Anyway, let's get this party started, shall we? We'll start by designing the thing and look at its various aspects. I used it for about 2 weeks before writing this review, just to be clear.

Special feeling with hidden messages

The first thing you notice when you turn this thing on is the thin stripes. Luckily, Huawei's edge detection is very good, so you can work with it without problems. There is also a hole for the display camera in the top left corner (landscape). The thickness of this tablet is only 5.9 mm or, so to speak, thinner. It weighs 449 grams and is very comfortable to use. I used 11" rims which are very thick and heavy.

It should be noted that the weight is made possible by the use of plastic, I say. I couldn't find any specific information about the materials Huawei uses, and while the case is very nice and solid, it doesn't look good enough to be metal. I could be wrong. The back panel looks like the back of paper. This is great because it is less slippery than glass. I'm not sure what the material is, but it's matte and at least doesn't look fingerprint compatible yet.

Unfortunately, there is no audio jack.

Unfortunately, Huawei has chosen not to include a 3.5mm headphone jack on this tablet. In my opinion, this is a strange solution for tablets, but it exists. The buttons are very comfortable and pleasant to use, no complaints. No IP certificate or anything so you can protect yourself from rain etc.

Two wonderful accessories from the first batch are given as a gift.

Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) launched with a lot of interesting accessories. Please note that they are both sold separately. One of them is a must when buying this tablet and the other one is Huawei M-Pencil. First of all, let's talk about this.

Best case + keyboard I have ever used

This year, the MatePad Pro comes with a redesigned magnetic keyboard smart cover. This is the best tablet case I have ever used. You feel that the skin is not very slippery. It is slightly softer than normal leather and is very pleasant to the touch. This case is a combination of two different parts connected to each other by a magnet. One part is the keyboard, and once connected, it covers the tablet screen. It can be turned off, in which case you will find yourself in the back of the case, which is permanently attached to the tablet with a magnet. There is a footrest at the back.

When the keyboard is attached, you can put this bag on your own and put the keyboard in front. The tablet itself remains magnetized to both sides of the body and you can write. However, the keyboard is still just as good as previous versions. It's a chiclite-style keyboard, and given the small space Huawei had to carry around, the company did a great job. In general, it looks very good and cool. I like ease of use.

You can also buy second generation Huawei M-Pencil for this tablet. It's not as elegant as the S Pen, but it's much better than your average stylus. This tablet comes with a lot of features designed for this style and is definitely a pleasure to use. There are two interchangeable pins inside and if you like the design, you can do a lot with them. It has extremely low latency and 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

It is very easy to charge it, as it magnetizes on the side of the tablet and therefore charges. So it attaches to the tablet so it's virtually seamless. To be honest, I hardly used it except for testing because I'm not very good at drawing and didn't find it useful. However, I've never been the style picker, so... there you go. If you do, you will probably love this person.

Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) has an excellent screen with accurate colors.

Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) has a beautiful screen. It has an 11-inch OLED screen with QHD (2560 x 1600) resolution. It can display up to 1 billion colors and is certified by TUV Rheinland (Display 3.0 certification). This tablet has a 92% screen-to-body ratio and the screen offers P3 wide color gamut. It also has 1440Hz PWM high-frequency dimming, and we're looking at 274dpi here.

On paper it looks like a great show, and the same is true for real life use. If you prefer to edit your photos on a tablet and need an accurate color screen, this will help. It also has good viewing angles and it's quite sharp and the brightness will be enough for most people if they don't use it often in direct sunlight. Touch sensitivity is also very good, and to be honest, I have no particular complaints.

Although this is an older SoC, the performance is good.

There are two versions of this tablet, one with the Snapdragon 888 SoC and the other with the Snapdragon 870. We tested the latter, so we'll focus on it. There are models with 8 GB and 12 GB of RAM, and we tested the first model with 256 GB of memory. During our use, the tablet worked perfectly. For everyday tasks and heavy multitasking, we had no problem. The Snapdragon 870 is still a very powerful processor, and paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash, there were no issues. There were glitches here and there, like almost all devices, but it wasn't worth it.

Matches went well

During testing, I tried two games, but note that Huawei's app store is still very limited when it comes to games. I couldn't try Genshin Impact or Call of Duty or anything like that. To be honest, I've had a few fun games like Rise of the Kingdom and Asphalt 9. Both work fine and the tablet has never overheated, to be honest, not much. Unfortunately, not many popular games are available. We hope to see more in AppGallery in the future.

Battery life is not something you should worry about.

Depending on which option you choose, you will get different reload speeds. Both models have an 8300 mAh battery. The Snapdragon 888 model is rated at 66W, while the Snapdragon 870 variant supports 40W charging, and by the way, both variants come with a charger.

Battery life on this thing was great. So I used it in two different ways to get the most accurate information. The first was with serious games. I took it over the weekend and played for a while. The tablet was able to work for more than 8 hours. With regular use, I was able to get over 11 hours on a single charge for two days. So yes, battery life is not an issue.

The cameras surprised me

I don't like talking about tablet cameras because it's a bad habit. Well, that's not the point here. To be clear, this is not very good and cannot compete with smartphones, but for a tablet it is very good.

These are some of the best cameras for tablets.

Huawei has opted for a 13MP main camera on the back and has also included an 8MP wide-angle camera. We recommend you get a 16-megapixel selfie camera. Let's start with the front camera. It's really cool. Even in bright lighting conditions, it provides a brighter image than the real thing. It's more than acceptable for video calls, so you should use it.

The two rear cameras can take good, sharp and clear photos in good light. However, everything changes when the lights go out. In terms of video recording, the footage is somewhat shaky due to the lack of EIS, but the image quality is good.

If you are planning on using a camera, this tablet is for you.

So you can use these cameras and not give them up completely, but people should avoid taking photos and videos with tablets. It's great to see OEMs go out of their way to provide options in this regard, but most people never use rear cameras on their tablets. Of course, there are always exceptions.

It has some of the best speakers on a tablet, period.

This is the company's first tablet with "Huawei Sound" that we've seen in the company's laptops. There are six dedicated speakers here and the sound is excellent. Thus, even if you hold the tablet to download, you will not be able to block the volume properly. Not enough to not give you partial pleasure. If you're watching a movie or listening to music or whatever and this thing is sitting or laying down, you can actually enjoy it. These are side speakers that play a lot of bass. These are the best speakers I've seen on tablets, and probably the best already. In terms of audio, it's worth noting the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Bluetooth 5.1 is shown here, and the Snapdragon 888 is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2.

The program is great, but...

Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) is equipped with Android 12 but does not have Google services. This is currently happening with all Huawei devices due to the US ban. Get Huawei services and an app store called App Gallery. But before we get into that, keep in mind that HarmonyOS 3 comes pre-installed on Android. However, over the past two years, AppGallery has grown exponentially. Huawei has invested heavily in its development, and this investment continues.

You may not find all the apps and games you need.

There are many apps and games, but very few popular apps are missing. If you're used to easily finding all the apps in the Google Play Store, you may be missing some of them. Also, you cannot use Google apps. Well, you can try to push it aside and some of them may work, which is unusual, but not all. You may also have problems with what you are doing. The choice of games is also not great, since there is no Genshin Impact, Call of Duty, etc. It's always possible to download apps/games and Huawei has a solution for that in the form of Petal Search.

Many multitasking features included.

However, if you don't need Google Apps and are already looking in the AppGallery for the items you need, great. Nothing stops you from buying this tablet because the software is great. The animation is fluid, as is the overall performance of the Harmonios 3. This is not surprising. You also have a number of features that take advantage of this large screen, such as advanced multitasking.
Folders can be expanded to make them compatible with tablets, and then launch applications directly from them. You can easily open programs in Windows, use the split screen feature, and more. These features are usually available with one or two clicks. Using a tablet is especially useful with a keyboard.

Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) isn't for everyone, but it's great

Starting at €649, the Huawei MatePad Pro 11 (2022) isn't cheap at all. However, Huawei has done a good job on this. This tablet performs flawlessly even during long gaming sessions, all without the latest and greatest SoC. It has a large screen with excellent touch response and very smooth software. The cameras are also serviceable, and if you decide to purchase accessories for them, you will not be disappointed.

However, if you have a lot of invisible apps installed on your devices, or you need some apps that are not available in AppGallery, you might run into a problem. You can always move it to the side, but be careful when doing so. Google apps are also out of the question. I mean, the main problem with the tablet is the US ban on Huawei. This product itself is truly exceptional and provides a premium feel. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not.
