The Latest Galaxy S24 Price Rumor Is Even Exciting For IPhone Owners
I've used an iPhone for years and don't plan on switching to Android any time soon. But due to the nature of my job, I constantly monitor what's happening in the Android ecosystem. The Samsung Galaxy S version is always at the top of this list.
Galaxy S rumors usually tell the exact story of the next unreleased flagship phone long before Samsung announces the phone. The same may be true for the Galaxy S24 series. A new report from Korea has just added more information about the upcoming series, saying that the Galaxy S24 will be priced the same as the Galaxy S23.
While I don't plan on buying any of the three Galaxy S24 phones, I still think the price rumors are very interesting. Not because it puts pressure on Apple to offer the iPhone 16 at a competitive price. The launch of the Galaxy S was unlike anything we've ever seen before.
Samsung will equip its phones with its own generation of AI software, and AI won't come cheap. By keeping the price the same as the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung will offer free AI features or find other ways to charge users for them.
Artificial intelligence like ChatGPT cannot be free.
I've already said that I'm willing to buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max next year if this particular iPhone model offers me the best generative AI experience. Apple is developing its own competitor, ChatGPT, which is expected to be included in iOS 18. Rumors are also circulating that Apple will bring some AI features to its devices, although other features may require a connection to Apple's servers.
The fact is that I am willing to pay for access to integrated generative AI and personalized AI experiences. I know this kind of software isn't free and I don't want a personal generative AI that I paid for through advertising and this Google Gemini issue is why.
If you want immediate access to the best version of ChatGPT, you need to purchase a ChatGPT Plus subscription for $20 per month.
For personal AI, you have the $799 Humane Ai Pin smartphone, which comes with a mandatory cellular connection from the same company that covers communication costs and unlimited, uninterrupted access to the AI. However, I would be surprised if people bought it. And price has nothing to do with it.
Galaxy S24Price Rumors
Coming back to the Galaxy S24, there is no doubt that this will be Samsung's first AI phone. Samsung is currently trying to trademark AI Phone, and this is the best proof you can get.
They also couldn't introduce Samsung's Gauss and its amazing live translation feature for calls and bring this AI trick to the Galaxy S24. This translation feature should be fully functional on your device.
Not to mention, various other AI features that are expected to be present in the Galaxy S24 series have been leaked.
Access to AI costs money and Samsung needs to find a way to pass the cost on to users. The price of the Galaxy S24 will not be the same.
A report from Korean media outlet Hankyung states that Samsung has frozen the price of the Galaxy S23 for the upcoming series. We are talking about an increase in Galaxy S24 sales of up to 10% compared to the flagship in 2023. Samsung wants to take advantage of the recovery of the smartphone market and to achieve this it is necessary to maintain competitive prices.
The Galaxy S23 starts at $799.99 in the US. The Plus version starts at $999.99, while the cheapest version of the Galaxy S23 Ultra costs $1,199.99. This is of course the starting price. Now, almost a year after the launch of this phone, you can get a much better deal. But you may have to wait until the Galaxy S24 arrives to make a decision.
If the report is true, Samsung will not necessarily include AI costs in the price of the Galaxy S24. Recent rumors suggest that Samsung is considering adopting its AI and this might be the right move.
What will Apple do?
I'm also curious to see what Apple will do in response. Apple can't stay out of the ChatGPT race for too long. The iPhone 16 series will almost certainly have generative AI features built into the devices. And I hope the iPhone 16 Pro models provide the best platform for iOS' AI capabilities.
Therefore, Apple needs to find a way to monetize its artificial intelligence software. This could be an increase in the price of an iPhone or other subscription. This is all just speculation, of course. But competition will also play a role in Apple's decision. That's why I think the Galaxy S24 price rumors are interesting.
