DJs Steve Aoki And 3LAU Form CryptoPunks Supergroup
A number of popular electronic musicians known to be fans of NFT have come together and inspired their own Cryptopunks ( PFP ) profile pictures .
Steve Aoki and Justin "3LAU" Blau announced today that they have formed a supergroup via Ethereum NFT and will be releasing new music called Punks. Although they are both experienced producers with their own distinct sound signatures, 3LAU Punx tweeted that they intend to introduce a new style of electronic music with their collaboration .
Although Punx artists use CryptoPunks NFTs, they will not release their own NFTs for this project, at least not yet. The pair released their first song together as NFT , " Jenny ," in 2021.
"This is not an NFT," said Punx 's 3LAU . "But that doesn't mean there won't be a future where our music and blockchain technology will merge."
In a statement, Aki, who revealed earlier this year that he made more money from NFTs , said that his mutual love for Web 3 inspired him to create Punks with his old friend.
"Punks is a forward-thinking music art project that aims to celebrate the music we love and the music that made us who we are today," said Aki. "Using our own CryptoPunks in the images is just the beginning of our plans to involve the amazing Web3 community in this project."
After the announcement went live on Tuesday morning, Aoki changed his Twitter profile to CryptoPunk #6748 , which uses PFP Aoki as an avatar and a switch between the two. In September, an avid NFT collector purchased Purple Cap and Thief Mask Punk #6748 for 89.95 ETH or $147,000 .
3LAU's CryptoPunk is punk # 6708 with white hair and dark glasses . He bought 3LAU NFT in March 2021 for 29.99 ETH , which was $51,000 at the time.
"Over the past few years, we've navigated the crazy world of Web3 together," 3LAU, who also co-founded music marketplace Royal NFT , said in a statement about his friendship with Aoki. "We can't wait to share the new sounds and crazy ideas we're cooking up in the studio with the world."
As CryptoPunks acquires commercial rights from NFT owners, Yuga hopes to prove "heritage as a work of art."
Owners of CryptoPunks may use their NFTs to create artworks and derivatives, while retaining intellectual property promotion rights from the YugaLab project owner. The company promoted the idea by establishing the Bored Up Yacht Club in 2021. .
Other artists use their NFT avatars to release music, typically through the board-up Yacht Club NFT. Following today's announcement, 3LAU told Decrypt why he and Aki chose to use CryptoPunks for this collaboration.
3LAU said: "You've never seen Monkey Project in so many releases." "And that's how Steve got into this position in the first place. I talked about all these things before the end of 2020, so the punks made a lot of sense."
Fronted by Bored Monkey , EscapePlan is the DJ duo of the project's two NFT owners. Earlier this year, they announced a collaboration with artist Dillon Francis to produce music, prompting Francis to purchase his own Boring Monkey as part of the lease payment.
Meanwhile, under Universal Music Group's 22:22 imprint , Grammy -winning producers Hit-Boy and James Fauntleroy have formed the virtual band Monkey Board, Kingship, and legendary producer Timbaland has launched his own production company to release music for free in 2021. Monkey - famous artists.
Punks joins a growing trend of electronic dance music (EDM) artists uniting under a collective name. Notably, Deadmau5, who is involved with NFT, has started dropping tracks with Kaskade this year under the name Kx5.
