19yearold Woman Dies After Falling Ill At Terminal V Halloween Festival
A 19-year-old woman died at the Terminal V festival in Edinburgh over the weekend.
Maya Nagar collapsed at a Halloween party on October 29, was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead by doctors on Monday morning.
Police Scotland are investigating Nager's death.
A BBC spokesman said: "We have been informed that a 19-year-old woman contracted the disease at around 6pm on Saturday 29 October at an event in Ingleston, Edinburgh. She was taken to the Royal Edinburgh Hospital for treatment.” Sadly, he passed away on Monday 31st October.
Terminal V is Scotland's 'biggest' electronic music festival with 20,000 ticket holders and takes place twice a year in the Royal Highlands with Easter and Halloween events.
A spokesman for Terminal 5 organizers told the BBC : "We are deeply saddened by the news and our deepest condolences go out to the family. We will continue to assist the police in their investigation.”
On October 3, Edinburgh City Council held a session on dealing with drug abuse at the event.
PC Greg Stephens expressed Edinburgh Live 's concern: "At each of the previous Terminal V events, large quantities of controlled drugs have been seized from festival sponsors, leading to serious drug-related health problems.
They also found that in April 2017, the first Terminal V had 11 medical cases and two hospitalized for drug poisoning, and in October 2018, Terminal V had 53 medical cases and two hospitalized in the Halloween incident.
Claire Miller, the council's chief of public safety, called Station Five an "extremely serious incident" her department was dealing with. Organizers insist they have "intense" drug deals ahead of this year's Halloween release.
A fundraiser was set up in memory of Maya, with proceeds going to the Homeless Project in Scotland, where she volunteered to deliver food parcels during the pandemic.
The donations go to the animal welfare organization SSPCA and community-run refugee charities in Glasgow.
